You can join Scottish Hostels if you are an independent hostel, bunkhouse, backpackers or activity accommodation provider and are either part of the VisitScotland Quality Assurance Scheme or have public facing, independent reviews.

Our membership year

Our membership year is 1st January – 31st December inclusive.

Invoices are issued in November with payment due by 31st December.  

New members may join at any time during a membership year. There is a discount for joining at other times in the year based on quarterly intervals:

  • After 1st April – 25% discount
  • After 1st July – 50% discount
  • After 1st October – 75% discount

Membership price bands

The price bands upon which the annual membership subscriptions for our members are based are as follows:

  • Micro (capacity of between 1 and 10 guests)
  • Small (capacity of between 11 and 20 guests)
  • Medium (capacity of between 21 and 40 guests)
  • Large (capacity of between 41 and 60 guests) 
  • Extra Large (capacity of 61 guests or more)

Notes

  1. In this context, the word ”capacity” refers to the number of guests aged 16 or older which the hostel can accommodate when at full capacity, NOT to the number of beds in the hostel. 
  2. In ascertaining the capacity of a Member’s hostel account shall be taken not just of the capacity of the main hostel building but also any additional accommodation on site (such as any annexe building, cabins or pods) the occupants of which have access to facilities within the main hostel building AND which the member advertises on their hostel website. 
  3. It shall be in the sole discretion of the Board of Directors (acting reasonably) to decide whether any such additional accommodation shall be taken into account for these purposes.

Membership Prices

The membership fees are agreed by our members each year.  

The membership fees for 2023 are as follows:

  • Micro - £131 
  • Small - £184 
  • Medium - £236 
  • Large - £289 
  • Extra Large - £341
